Everything about connecting
your accounts

Step-by-step guides for every connection type โ€” brokerages, crypto, prop firms, and more. Stuck? The assistant in the corner can walk you through it live.

Getting started

Profit Pal is a read-only P&L dashboard: connect your accounts once on the web, and your numbers appear in the iOS app, widgets, and Live Activity automatically.

  1. Create your account at getprofitpal.com (or sign in if you already have one). This same login works in the iOS app.
  2. Connect your accounts from the Connections page โ€” brokerages, crypto, prop firms, Qtrade, Shopify. Each type has its own card with its own short flow (guides below).
  3. Open the iOS app and sign in with the same email. Your dashboard, widgets, and Live Activity fill in on their own โ€” the app never asks for a broker password.
Read-only by design: Profit Pal can never place trades, move funds, or change anything in a connected account. It reads your numbers โ€” nothing more.

Connecting a brokerage via SnapTrade

Charles Schwab, Questrade, Wealthsimple, Robinhood, Fidelity, Interactive Brokers, and 20+ more connect through SnapTrade's secure portal. You sign in on your brokerage's own page โ€” Profit Pal never sees your password.

Steps

  1. On the Connections page, choose the Brokerage card and tap Connect with SnapTrade.
  2. A secure portal opens โ€” search for your brokerage and sign in there (with your brokerage's own login page, 2FA and all).
  3. That's it. Your accounts import automatically within a couple of minutes, even if you close the tab. A brand-new connection may briefly show "first sync in progress" while your brokerage sends its first batch of data.

Had TD Ameritrade? Pick Charles Schwab important

TD Ameritrade no longer exists as a separate brokerage โ€” Schwab acquired it and every TD Ameritrade account was migrated to Schwab. So in the SnapTrade portal, search for "Charles Schwab" and sign in with your Schwab login (the one that replaced your old TD Ameritrade credentials). All your former TD Ameritrade holdings come through it.

Connecting crypto

Two ways, depending on where your crypto lives. Both are read-only, and crypto is priced with live market prices.

Exchange accounts (Coinbase, Kraken, โ€ฆ) via SnapTrade

Use the same Brokerage card: connect with SnapTrade, pick your exchange in the portal, and sign in there. Balances, holdings, and P&L flow in like any brokerage โ€” including fractional coin amounts.

Wallet addresses (BTC & ETH) โ€” no login needed

  1. Choose the Crypto card and paste your public wallet address (starts with bc1โ€ฆ for Bitcoin or 0xโ€ฆ for Ethereum).
  2. Optionally enter a cost basis โ€” the total amount you put in. Your P&L is then shown as current value vs that number.
  3. ETH wallets automatically include major tokens too: USDC, USDT, DAI, WBTC, and WETH, each as its own position.
Never share private keys or seed phrases โ€” with Profit Pal or anyone. Only a public address is ever needed, and a public address can't move your funds.

Qtrade CSV import

Qtrade isn't on SnapTrade yet, so Profit Pal imports your Qtrade history from the CSV file Qtrade lets you export.

  1. In Qtrade, export your transactions CSV (Account activity โ†’ download/export as CSV).
  2. On the Connections page choose Qtrade (CSV), then upload the file โ€” or just paste its contents.
  3. Optionally enter your current account value so today's number is exact.
  4. To refresh later, export a fresh CSV and import it again โ€” Profit Pal rebuilds the history from it.

Trading platforms & prop firms

TradeLocker, DXtrade, Match-Trader, TopstepX, cTrader, and MetaTrader connect by signing in once โ€” Profit Pal then imports every account under that login, each pinned to its own account ID so numbers never mix.

  1. Pick your platform's card on the Connections page.
  2. Enter the platform login (and server/URL where asked). Credentials are encrypted at rest and only ever used to read your data.
  3. Every funded/demo account under the login imports automatically โ€” rename any of them so they're easy to tell apart.

TopstepX: getting your API key requires ProjectX API subscription

  1. Create a free account at dashboard.projectx.com and subscribe to ProjectX API Access ($29/mo โ€” or $14.50/mo with promo code topstep).
  2. Link the subscription to your TopstepX profile: in TopstepX, open Settings โš™๏ธ โ†’ API tab โ†’ "Add Link".
  3. Still in Settings โ†’ API, click "Add API Key" and copy the key it generates.
  4. In Profit Pal, open the TopstepX card and enter your TopstepX username + that API key. Every eligible account under your profile imports automatically.
Treat the key like a password โ€” it's stored encrypted, and Profit Pal only ever uses it to read balances and positions. Questions about the subscription itself go to Topstep (dashboardapi@topstep.com or #api-trading on their Discord).
Don't want to pay for the API? Use the free Topstep (CSV) card instead: in TopstepX open the Trades tab at the bottom, click Export, choose your date range, and upload that file. You get your full P&L history and profit calendar โ€” it's a snapshot rather than live sync, so re-import a newer export whenever you want to update.

Syncing & timing

How fresh are my numbers?

The Profit Pal backend re-reads every connected account continuously โ€” roughly every 15 seconds โ€” around the clock, even when your phone and computer are off. Crypto positions are additionally re-priced with live market prices, so they don't lag behind exchange syncs.

Just connected a brokerage? Accounts import automatically within a couple of minutes of finishing the portal. The very first data sync from a brand-new brokerage connection can take a few minutes more on the brokerage's side โ€” you'll see "first sync in progress" until it lands.

Weekends & market closed: open positions stay visible with their last known values instead of disappearing.

Security

Read-only, encrypted, minimal

Profit Pal is built read-only from the ground up: it cannot place, modify, or close trades, and it cannot deposit, withdraw, or transfer anything. Brokerage connections use SnapTrade's OAuth flow, so your brokerage password is never seen by Profit Pal at all. Platform logins you do enter (prop firms) are encrypted at rest. The iOS app never asks for any broker credential โ€” connections only happen here on the web.

Nobody from Profit Pal will ever ask for your password, 2FA code, or seed phrase โ€” not by email, not in chat. The assistant on this page is instructed to refuse them too.

Frequently asked

I connected my brokerage but the app shows nothing yet. +
Give it a couple of minutes โ€” accounts import automatically after you finish the SnapTrade portal, and a brand-new connection can take a few extra minutes on the brokerage's very first sync. Pull to refresh in the app. Still empty after ~10 minutes? Email support@getprofitpal.com.
Where's TD Ameritrade in the list? +
Search for Charles Schwab instead โ€” Schwab absorbed TD Ameritrade and all accounts were migrated. Your former TD Ameritrade holdings connect through your Schwab login.
My crypto P&L looks different from my exchange. +
Profit Pal prices crypto with live market prices and uses your broker's own reported P&L where available, so small timing differences vs your exchange's display are normal. For wallet addresses, P&L is current value minus the single cost-basis number you entered โ€” it's whole-wallet, not per-coin.
Can Profit Pal trade or move my money? +
No. Read-only access only โ€” no trade execution, no transfers, ever. Your broker, exchange, or store keeps operating completely independently.
Why do I connect on the web instead of in the iOS app? +
The web app is your secure account hub โ€” you connect once here, and the data becomes available everywhere. The iPhone app is designed to display your numbers and never asks for a broker password.
Does syncing keep working when my devices are off? +
Yes โ€” syncing runs on Profit Pal's servers 24/7. Your phone just displays the latest numbers whenever you look.
How do I update my Qtrade numbers? +
Export a fresh transactions CSV from Qtrade and import it again on the Qtrade (CSV) card โ€” the history rebuilds from the new file.
Something else? +
Ask the assistant in the corner, or email support@getprofitpal.com โ€” include your account email and which platform or brokerage is involved.
